Don't you love contractions? My title is ambiguous (no, not morally or sexually). It's ambiguous in that it could mean "today is the day" or "today was the day." At first glance, it probably means the former. After all, this is September 1, the day I've been trumpeting for weeks as the debut of The Last Kinmark. However, if you've been following along on here or on Facebook, you know that it actually means the latter. Today was the day.
Due to Amazon's unholy speed at publishing e-books, mine actually came out Saturday afternoon. Several of you have already bought it, read it, and told me that you loved it. Or you at least had the kindness to lie to me. If that's the case, thank you. I'm a pretty sensitive guy.
So, the book is out. If you were waiting for today to buy it, it's still there waiting for you. Ninety thousand words of utter idiocy masquerading as sheer genius. I hope you'll all read it (just click the link to the right under "Click to Buy"). If you do so, please please please leave a review on Amazon. Even if you just leave a star rating and a little snippet of your thoughts, it will help me tremendously.
Like I've been saying, today was the day my debut fantasy book was to come out. But it's also still the day for another milestone. Today, I'm moving on from The Last Kinmark. It's out in the world; it's graduated and is going off to college. But I still have other children that I have to nurture into adulthood. For the last few weeks, I've been editing The Guilt of the Innocent and have it at a point where I'm comfortable calling it a second draft. The next step in its adolescence is to be sent off to a few people for examination. In essence, it's going off to boarding school for a little while. Hopefully, it doesn't fail.
While it's out there, I'll be starting the third of the four parts of The Kinmark Saga. It's called The True Believer, and words cannot express how excited I am to get back to some actual writing. Marketing and editing can be made bearable, but writing is pure creative enjoyment.
But that book won't be released for months (probably around New Year's). The Guilt of the Innocent, on the other hand, is only a single month away from being available. While I hope to gain many readers of The Last Kinmark during the interim, I also want to keep you earlier readers engaged. I don't want you to read the first book today and have nothing from Fulorn until October 1.
What shall I do about this? Oh, I know. I'll give you sample chapters from The Guilt of the Innocent! And in my never-ending fight to get you to sign up for my newsletter (big white box on the right), I'll be doing so only through that. The plan is to send out 17 total chapters in 4 segments. I've analyzed the data and run it through my high-powered advertising firm and have decided that that's the right amount. So, if you want to read some of the next book before it comes out, you can. If not, enjoy the beginning of football season. And always remember, Go Pack!
